Trace Elements: Black Hole
Co-curated with Ferris Plock. San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries: Grove. St. Window Installation Site. May 2009
Artists: Chris Duncan, Maya Hayuk, Kyle Ranson, and Brion Nuda Rosch
In the field of science a trace element is a minute component of a whole. It is not insignificant, however, because without trace elements the organism/entity would either not be what it is, or not be healthy. Identifying a trace element is very difficult, but once it has been singled out, it is often the key that unlocks a complete understanding of what is being researched.
Installation and Performance
Artists Statement: When a black hole has gone, all the information about the star that collapsed to form the black hole has vanished, which contradicts the widely affirmed principle that information cannot be destroyed. This is known as the black hole information paradox. The 3D world behind the (Grove Street) window will become a flattened 2D glimpse into this infinite, parallel universe. Our collaboration is a metaphor for creating new languages by weaving our individual vocabularies of color, form, string, light, pattern work, paint, quilt, collage, wooden construction and mirrors.
