Ann P. Meredith: Tall in the Saddle

Curator. San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries: City Hall. December 2007 - March 2017

Tall in the Saddle: Cowgirls, Ranch Women & Rodeo Gals marks the culmination of over seventeen years of artist Ann P. Meredith’s dedication to documenting the achievements of remarkable women determined to preserve their heritage and break new ground in the arenas of ranching and rodeo. The exhibition includes 75 black and white fine art documentary-style photographs depicting cowgirls in a variety of scenarios including competing in rodeo events, working the land and relaxing at home on the ranch. Presented in tandem with the photographs is Meredith’s documentary film of the same title that riotously reflects the cowgirls of the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA) filmed at the Annual Sierra Stampede at the Rio Linda Show Grounds in Sacramento, California in 1999.

About Ann P. Meredith

Ann P. Meredith is an internationally acclaimed writer/director/producer/photographer and founder of Swordfish Productions. Ann has been creating content for over 46 years to help give a compassionate and intimate face and voice to people and cultures who have been injured, persecuted, under-recognized and therefore under-served.

"Ann's work merits attention...provocative, political and self-expressive. Ann is strong-minded and dedicated at working with subject matter that is considered to be controversial but her work is often both subtle and acute, a contrast to the intensity of their meaning. Her artwork stimulates discussion about subjects, which are too often ignored or avoided by the general public." ~ Agnes Gund, President Emerita Museum of Modern Art New York
